HTML is the language for describing -the-structure of Web-pages. HTML gives authors the means to:

• Publish online-documents with text,  headings, lists,tables, photos, etc.
• Retrieve online-information via hypertext links.
• Design forms for conducting-transactions with remote-services, for use in searching for  ordering_products,information, making reservations etc.
• Include sound clips,spread-sheets, video clips,  and other applications_directly in their documents.

CSS

CSS, the language for describing the presentation-of-Web_pages, including  fonts, color & layout. It allows_one to adapt the presentation to different types-of-devices such as small screens, large screens or printers. CSS is independent on HTML . It can be used with any XML_based mark-up language. The separation_of_HTML from CSS makes it very easier to  share style sheets across pages, maintain sites & tailor pages to different-environments.
